The Library is located in the centre of town, in a building specifically built for that purpose, with an area of about 2000 square metres. There is a large reading-room with 122 seats where cultural and art programmes take place, and exhibition area on the balcony and in the hall. The Library also possesses a significant collection of paintings by famous artists. It has over 162 000 books and at the moment it is subscribed to over 70 serial publications. The books are available to the public at the lending departments. The catalogue has been sorted by name, title, profession, subject, and since 2001. electronic catalogue has been at the public's disposal. The Library has over 16 000 active members.

The founder and main financier of the Library is Pančevo municipality. The Library performs professional supervision in the district of South Banat. For the purpose of implementing these functions and day-to-day activities within the Library itself, various departments and divisions have been established.
In 1978. the Library was awarded the prize "Milorad Panić Surep" for outstanding results in the field of librarian activities. The same prize was awarded to our librarians Mrs Verica Jeftić (1977) and Mrs Živka Ilkić (1993).
The Library's prize for literature by an author from Pančevo was established in 1994. and it is awarded every year for the best prose or poetic piece of literary work in the preceding year. The day of the Library and its Patron Saints are Ćirilo and Metodije (24 May).
The Library organizes a manifestation called May Book Days.
Since 1994, the Library has been organizing scientific meetings with the topics related to librarianship and literature.
The process of Library automation commenced last year. The Library has 25 PCs and internet network.
There is a tendency in the Library of developing the new and reviving past activities. The publishing of Literary Topography of Pančevo (2001), after a decade-long pause, marked the revival of its publishing activity. This year, Children's Department established a literary group for the elementary school pupils.
